Rick Bernard’s Street of Dreams home for the 1996 event was featured by the The Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland in their special home edition. The following are excerpts and images from this contemporary and innovative custom home.
This year’s home takes advantage of the site to provide architectural interest and spectacular views from every room. Interior designer Susan Green complements the contemporary design with a transitional interior. She incorporates a touch of the Oriental to accent the clean architectural lines. Neutral tones and natural materials tie the high-ceilinged rooms together.
Susan selected four-inch plank maple flooring with a natural finish throughout the main level. Granite and tumbled marble in neutral shades pull it together, and recessed lighting softens the effect. Expansive windows in every room (18-foot windows in the great room!) pull in the natural light, and decking on every level lets homeowners move from indoor to outdoor living. Wood banding joins corner windows in the den, great room and master suite for both strength and beauty.
Each room has its dynamic touches – the brass and black sink in the powder room, horizontal granite banding in the main fireplace, recessed “toe-lighting” at your feet in the master bath and slate in the lower level.
